  6. proactive network management system for administrators of NetBIOS LANs.
  7. The software-only product runs on a single client PC, and features
  8. powerful artificial intelligence (AI), English-text alarms and reports,
  9. and intelligent alarm handling.

  11. Capable of true enterprise-wide operation, LAN Command Professional
  12. automatically crosses bridges, routers and gateways to monitor any
  13. networked server or client--without any additional software or hardware on
  14. those remote segments. Topology independent, it simultaneously monitors
  15. attached Arcnet, Ethernet and Token Ring LANs from a single site.

  18. the number of installations, network administrators have told us that they
  19. need a network management system to troubleshoot problems before their

  57. 100-node ($1,295), 250-node ($1,995), 500-node ($3,995), 750-node ($5,995)
  58. and 1,000-node ($7,995).

  60. The system requirements include an IBM PC/XT/AT or 100% compatible, 512
  61. KBytes of RAM, 1 megabyte available on a local hard disk, and a network
  62. interface card (NIC). CGA, EGA and VGA video is supported, and a color

  68. Networks A Comprehensive Network Simulation and Performance-Measurement
  69. Solution

  71. Boston, MA--Dolphin Networks (based in Norcross, Georgia) announced today
  72. at NetWorld 92 Boston LC Benchmark: a performance-measurement and
  73. simulation package for Novell 286 & 386 networks. Running on a DOS-based
  74. client workstation, LC Benchmark uses an expert system to measure and
  75. predict the performance of a PC, a pair of nodes, or the entire network.
  76. Optionally, LC Benchmark can also accurately predict the performance of
  77. any new or planned network configuration running any application.

  79. When testing an installed network, LC Benchmark automatically finds all
  80. nodes-- across all bridges, routers and gateways--and populates a database
  81. with information gathered from the network. Applying specific test suites
  82. and its advanced expert system, LC Benchmark measures the performance of
  83. individual stations, two-station dialogues, or the entire network. With
  84. these features, LC Benchmark pinpoints problems and allows an
  85. administrator to quickly isolate any faulty or failing equipment across
  86. the network.

  88. In addition to pinpointing the bottlenecks of an installation, LC Benchmark
  89. also determine a PC's performance in a network environment by conducting
  90. extensive tests on the installed network card, the CPU, the memory, the
  91. video card, the local hard drive, and other components that either
  92. directly or indirectly impact performance. With this feature, a network
  93. administrator can easily benchmark multiple PC's to identify the machine
  94. configuration with the best network performance--prior to making any
  95. purchase decision.

  97. Also available are optional library modules which work in conjunction with
  98. LC Benchmark to simulate the performance of any network device and
  99. application. These modules consist of two types:

  101. ∙ A Device Profile Module (DPM)--which describes a network device.
  102.  
  103. ∙ An Application Profile Module (APM)--which describes a software
  104. application. By importing the data from a DPM and an APM module into a
  105. record--which in turn represents a "node" on the network--an administrator
  106. can easily project the impact of additional or replacement equipment, as
  107. well as the performance of new applications on an actual network, or even
  108. layout an entirely new "network."

  110. LC Benchmark can also capture the data from a network into custom DPM and
  111. APM modules. Because the capture option draws on the actual performance
  112. for a specific node, these custom modules effectively emulate how a "real"
  113. node would perform.

  115. A single-site license for LC Benchmark is $1,995 and the optional library
  116. modules begin at $99. LC Benchmark will become generally available April
  117. 1992 through major resellers and distributors. The library modules are
  118. available directly through Dolphin Networks.

  121. 640 KBytes of RAM. 2 megabytes of available storage on a local hard disk,
